The controlled substance prescribing bill SB 614: Drug Prescription by Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants sponsored by Senator Grimsley is on the agenda for the Senate Rules Committee on Monday afternoon 4/20. Emails and calls to all of the committee members requesting support for SB614 are needed in the next 3 days. This bill would allow ARNPs and PAs to prescribe controlled substances (under the supervision of a physician because our current practice is supervised - it is not the full practie authority bill). It would not allow ARNPs and PAs to prescribe medications in a pain management clinic. It would require the Board of Nursing to establish a committee that would determine the list of controlled substance medications that ARNPs could or could not prescribe.

Our Treasure Coast Senator Joe Negron is on the Rules Committee and needs to hear from people in his district. He voted against this bill in the last committee. He needs to hear from us, his constituents. Our patients, family, friends and neighbors should all send him an email this weekend.

I also believe it's very important for him to hear from local physicians who support these bills. All it takes is a phone call or email that says "I'm Dr XYZ, a (insert specialty here) in (insert town) and I ask that Senator Negron support SB 614."
