Are you planning to continue to work as a Medicare Provider into 2019 and beyond? Are you aware that for the past 57 days we have been in the comments period of a massive regulatory overhall in the way YOU GET PAID? Did you know that your last chance to have a say on the rules that will define your value is right now through Monday, June 27!
On April 27, 2016, the Department of Health and Human Services issued a Notice
Executive of Proposed Rulemaking to implement key provisions of the Medicare Access and Summary CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), bipartisan legislation that replaced the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate formula with a new approach to paying clinicians for the value and quality of care they provide.
Take time this weekend to review the proposed rules and submit your comments! Review the PDF attached or check out the resources at the CMS website. Learn NOW how you can stand to earn an extra 4% in 2019- an incentive that will be based on how and what you report in 2017! Failure to report appropriately could COST your 4%. Each year the carrot and stick get larger with a potential of 9% and MORE. Even if you have reassigned your payments to your employer's TIN, your performance will follow you, and it could impact your value to furture employers if your current billing manager doesn't handle the matter appropriately!
Truth is, the proposed changes actually streamline reporting, and make achieving incentives easier by reducing the number of measures you are required to report. And certainly, it WAS time to repeal the Sustainable Growth Rate. So in many it ways it will be better for providers. But we must be sure we are aware of how and when these rules will begin to impact our worth.
