Additional Information

Nurse practitioners see patients with leg swelling on a daily basis. This talk will give you the tools to make the correct diagnosis and begin management of your patients with edema. You will leave with a method to determine the cause of edema and will understand the differences between edema, lymphedema, and lipedema.

Dr Tapper has been kind enough to offer this talk twice for us, on Wednesday Aug 2 in Stuart and again on Thursday Aug 10 in Port St Lucie. Your spouse/significant other is welcome to attend. Please make sure to RSVP for the correct date/location and to RSVP for your guest if you are bringing one so that we have an accurate count.

We have applied for 1hour of CEU credit for this talk.

Objectives:

  1. Enable nurse practitioners to accurately diagnose and treat the most common causes of acute and chronic lower extremity swelling.
  2. Demonstrate treatment options for deep venous thrombosis, post-phlebitic syndrome, lymphedema, and lipedema.
  3. Describe the difference between lower extremity swelling due to medical conditions vs. mechanical conditions.
  4. Give nurse practitioners the confidence to make the correct diagnosis of lower extremity swelling when  the duplex scan is negative for DVT.
